Autism
(aka Autism Spectrum Disorder)

Autism is typically defined as a developmental disorder. However, it is really just a different pattern of neurological wiring (i.e., neurotype) that leads to distinct ways of processing experiences and the world. Autistic people have special interests (or Intensive Pervasive Interests) that form an important part of their identity. Autistic people also often have sensory sensitivities and needs that they need support around.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

ADHD is a neurotype that has difficulty regulating attention. ADHD folks tend to have varied interests that they may hyperfocus on, but they also have difficulty carrying out mundane tasks. They often need to learn and work in ways that engage their bodies (e.g., through movement or music). They may struggle with time blindness and forgetfulness, but ADHD folks also live with an incredible knack for creativity and humor.
